Module Information

Graduate Modules 2016/2017 Info and FAQ

How many modules must I take?

The module requirements differ with each PhD programme. See the table below. All of the modules listed below are 5 ECTS credits unless otherwise specified.

What modules can I take for credit?

This depends on the PhD programme. See table below

Can I get credit for external modules other than those listed here?

Yes. You can get recognition for up to 10ETCS for external modules. This form needs to be completed and returned to UCC.

Where can I get more info?

For info on the module content contact the module co-ordinator listed on the module descriptor. A description of all modules offered by UCC is contained in the Book of Modules

If you have queries regarding the SE Inter-Institutional modules , contact orla.slattery@tyndall.ie

Details of all Inter-Institutional Modules offered via INSPIRE and Flexilearn can be found here.

Where are the lecture rooms?

A map of main campus locations can be found here. The abbreviations used for main campus lecture rooms can be found here

What is the delivery format?

There are several delivery formats for the modules and these are listed with the module schedule. Our modules are delivered by Tyndall/UCC as well as inter-institutionally by our INSPIRE partners. Some modules will be delivered 1 or 2 lectures/week in UCC/Tyndall. Some modules will be delivered over a 1 week intensive block, these may be in UCC or at one of our partner institutes; e.g. SE6016 will be delivered at CIT. Other modules may have content recorded online via flexilearn.ie; e.g. SE6003 and students will also be expected to attend  the host institute for a period of time. Other modules will be live streamed into Tyndall, e.g. SE6013

Flexilearn.ie

In addition to registration with your institute, it is critically important to record your interest in taking a module here. This website is used by many lecturers to communicate with students taking their modules. Modules available online can only be accessed via flexilearn.ie.  Furthermore, in order to ensure the continued delivery of the inter-institutional modules, we need to demonstrate the demand for the modules and this is carried out using the student stats from the flexilearn website.

How do I register for the modules?

There are a number of steps depending on the module you wish to take and the programme on which you are registered. These are summarised in the schematics below. The relevant links/forms are:
