As the national institute for photonics and micro/nanoelectronics and a research flagship of UCC, the institute employs 500 researchers, engineers and support staff, including 120 full-time graduate students.
Our institute hosts the only full Silicon CMOS, Micro-Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) and III-V Semiconductor Wafer fabrication facilities and services in Ireland. We are experts at designing, miniaturising and prototyping products to drive connectivity.
At Tyndall, we deliver research and innovation in Europe with local and global impact. We have an outstanding track record of success in securing EU, national government and industry funding.
We are the lead institute for the Irish Photonics Integration Centre (IPIC) and European Space Agency (ESA)Space Solutions Centre Ireland. We host industry aligned research centres; Microelectronic Circuits Centre Ireland (MCCI); International Energy Research Centre (IERC); and the Centre for Future Networks and Communications (CONNECT). We also collaborate with other Higher Education Institutions and Industry including; the CONFIRM Centre for Smart Manufacturing and the recently launched Vista Milk for precision pasture-based dairying.
Tyndall is a constituent part of University College Cork (UCC). UCC is proud to be ranked in the top 2% of universities in the world, with a history of independent thinking stretching back over 170 years. Our international award winning university opened its gates to just 115 students in 1849. We now have a student population of over 21,000.
Tyndall offers a truly international collaborative working environment with over 52 nationalities represented. With this outlook come world-class expertise enabled by state of the art research facilities and equipment.
Our exciting Senior and Principal Scientist roles will be appointed within a salary range of circa €60,000 to €90,000 pa.
Initial appointments will be for a fixed 4 year period with the potential for progression to permanency based on research performance goals.
Our Research Leaders will be able to choose their level of teaching and supervision commitment for undergraduate and post graduate students. For outstanding academic researchers we will make joint appointments with University College Cork.
Whilst you will be expected to grow and nurture your own successful research group, you will be supported by a team of research colleagues including fellow experienced researchers, post-doctoral researchers and research assistants.
Relocation support of up to €7,000 will be provided.
Annual leave is 30 days with an additional 10 days for national holidays.
